On September 22, 2025, the 4th meeting of the joint coordinating committee within the framework of the SATREPS-2020 program, implemented jointly by the Agency for Innovative Development and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with a total value of US$5.0 million, was held in Tashkent.
This project is aimed at “Developing new technologies for monitoring and controlling the use of water resources to combat soil salinization, increase land fertility and food security in the Aral Sea region,” the main goal of which is to increase land fertility, improve the well-being of the population living in areas with limited access to water, and introduce new Japanese technologies into agriculture.
At the meeting, the results of the work carried out by Japanese and Uzbek scientists and project participants in 2024-2025 were presented. Negotiations were also held on the future plans of the project, and scientific research planned for implementation in 2026 was discussed.
The rector of the Karakalpak Institute of Agriculture and Agrotechnologies, B. Zhollibekov, also took part in this conference. In his speech, he informed about the results of scientific research conducted in the Karauzyak districts within the framework of the project in 2020-2025, noting that such international projects are of great importance in solving problems in ensuring food security in the region.
